Today’s session with Soyun and Lukas in the Azores reminded me once again why pre-wedding shoots matter so much. It’s easy to think of them as “just another photoshoot,” but days like this prove it’s so much more.

A pre-wedding session gives couples something they rarely get during the wedding day: time. Time to slow down, breathe, be together without schedules, guests, or expectations. With Soyun and Lukas, that space allowed their real connection to shine through — the way they glance at one another, the quiet gestures, the unspoken comfort, and how she leans into him unequivocally shows they found peace in each other’s presence.

And from my side as a photographer, it changes everything too. I get to observe how they move, what’s their better sides, how they interact, what makes them comfortable. This connection always makes the wedding day smoother — because by then, we’re no longer strangers.

In this particular case, looking back at the images, I’m reminded of why I love sessions like this. It’s not about perfect poses. It’s about documenting a mood, a place, a feeling.
